Eric Shuping, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.A.F.P., F.A.C.O.E.M.
Dr. Eric Shuping is board certified in family practice, preventive medicine, and occupational medicine. He came to VA after retiring from the Army after 27 years of service. Prior assignments in the military include Director and Occupational Medicine Consultant for the Public Health Directorate DCOS Public Health, Office of the Surgeon General; Chief of Primary Care Division at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center; Deputy Commander of Clinical Services, Bavaria MEDDAC; Deputy Commander for Public Health Command Europe; and Chief of Preventive Medicine, Fort Knox, Kentucky. He deployed to Iraq as a Theater Preventive Medicine Consultant from 2006 to 2007, where he earned a bronze star. He has earned a Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Dr. Shuping has published on infectious disease and injury control.
Dr. Shuping has had significant experience with environmental health issues within the Army and Department of Defense in deployed and garrison settings. He has been involved in the Chemical Warfare Agent Program, the issue of lead exposure from firing ranges, and nuclear and chemical weapon surety programs. He is the President Elect for the Maryland Chapter of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. Dr. Shuping is also flight medicine, dive medical, and Expert Field Medical Badge (EFMB) qualified.
